To install and launch Creator 6 on your Macintosh computer, you need the following hardware and software:
Ñ Macintosh Operating System 9.0 or newer
Note: Creator 6 runs as a native Mac OS X application, but it is not ready for production use in that environment. A free upgrade will be available when Creator 6 is fully compatible with Mac OS X.
Ñ PowerPC 8100/80 or newer. Slower PowerPC processors will work, but performance may be unacceptable for large documents.
Ñ 48 MB RAM or higher
Ñ CD-ROM drive
ADOBE ACROBAT READER 5.0
This folder contains the software that lets you view and print PDF files. Several documents on this CD-ROM are PDF files. To install Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0, double-click the icon and follow the on-screen instructions.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE╤COLORSYNC¿
Creator 6 requires ColorSync 3.0 or newer in order to run. The Mac OS 9 installer automatically installs ColorSync 3.0.
COLOR MATCHING
The default setting for new Creator 6 documents has color matching turned off. To turn color matching on, read the following instructions.
In Creator 6, choose Document > Document Settings > Color Matching Settings, and then select the "Use color matching" option. This turns color matching on for the active document only. To keep color matching turned on for future documents, you must first create a default document settings file with the "Use color matching" option selected (choose File > Save Default Document Settings). Next, open the New Document dialog box, and select the Use Default Document Settings File option. From now on, all new documents will have color matching turned on as the default when "Use Default Document Settings file" is selected.
CREATOR MIGRATION TOOL
The migration tool folder contains a utility to convert files created in Multi-Ad Creator 3.6 - 4.0.5 to files readable in the Windows version of MultiAd Creator 6. See the Read Me in the Migration Tool folder for more information. It is not necessary for upgrading to the Macintosh version of Creator 6, nor is it necessary for upgrading from Creator2. Creator 3.6 - 4.0.5 CIF files open directly in the Windows version of Creator 6.
CHANGED KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS
Many of the keyboard modifiers used when activating tools have changed in Creator 6 from Creator 4 or Creator2. For example, scrolling the document with the mouse is done with the Option key in Creator 4 and the Control key in Creator2. It has been changed to use the Command key in Creator 6. The MultiAd Creator 6.0 Quick Reference Card (PDF file) lists the new keyboard shortcuts.
MISSING TYPE 1 FONTS
Problem
If no Type 1 fonts appear in your Fonts menu, you may lack the "Type 1 Scaler" extension in the Extensions folder of the System Folder. Type 1 Scaler is a standard extension of Mac OS 9.0 - 9.2 that allows the Mac OS 9 Font Manager to see Type 1 fonts. Unlike older programs, MultiAd Creator 6 uses the Mac OS 9 Font Manager to get the list of active fonts because the older method is incompatible with Mac OS X. (So it would be normal for most other applications to be able to see the Type 1 fonts when Creator 6 can╒t if this extension is missing.) The Creator 6 installer does not install the Type 1 Scaler extension.
Solution
If the "Type 1 Scaler" extension is missing from your Extensions folder, do the following:
1. Check to see if the "Type 1 Scaler" extension is disabled using Extensions Manager or whatever third party tool you might use to manage extensions. If it is disabled, enable it and reboot.
2. If you can╒t find the Type 1 Scaler anywhere, run the Mac OS System Installer and reinstall your system.
PRAXISOFT EPS LIBRARY
Creator 6 ships with a special Praxisoft library that lets you color match EPS files. This library is compatible with several EPS file formats. They are:
Ñ Adobe Photoshop
Ñ Adobe Illustrator
Ñ QuarkXPress
Ñ MacroMedia Freehand
Ñ Multi-Ad Creator 4.0 (the library works only with the 4.0 version of Creator)
Ñ Multi-Ad Creator2 (all Creator2 versions)
Ñ MultiAd Creator 6
Note: Grayscale EPS Photoshop and Duotone EPS Photoshop files cannot be color matched with this library.
DOCUMENTATION UPDATES
The following information describes issues not included or incorrectly documented in the MultiAd Creator 6.0 User Guide.
Check for Updates command
The Help menu has a Check for Updates command. Choosing this command brings you to the Creator Software Web site, where you can download updaters to Creator 6.
Quick Open
The Quick Open menu (File > Quick Open) lets you quickly open files that you place in the Quick Open Items folder, which is inside the Creator 6 Folder. You can organize the Quick Open menu into submenus using the folders that you create in the Quick Open Items folder.
JPEG Export Options dialog box
The JPEG Export Options dialog box has a Resolution menu offering three options: 72 dpi, 144 dpi, and 288 dpi.
JPEG grayscale colorization
JPEG grayscale images can be foreground colorized, but not background colorized. "None" cannot be used as a foreground color.
PDF Export Options dialog box
The Primary use option "Printing" has been renamed "PostScript Printing" in the PDF Export Options dialog box.
Paste Plain Text command
The Paste Plain Text command removes the formatting of the text copied onto the Clipboard. The pasted text then takes on the attributes of the text at the insertion point.
Color management
The "Monitors" section on page 228 contains two errors:
Ñ The first paragraph incorrectly states that film displays with the use of the additive color model. Rather, film reacts to additive colors and then uses a subtractive model for display.
Ñ The number "28" should be replaced by "2 to the 8th power" in all three instances in the first paragraph.
